The Story Behind the Bottle
Australia’s top wine critic, James Halliday, praises winemaker Neil Pike for his “generously constructed and flavoured wines”, awarding the winery 5 Stars – his highest rating. Add to that Neil’s brother Andrew’s track record – Clare’s ‘Viticulturalist of the Year’ – and you can imagine how wine quality there soars. The family have been producers since 1886 when Henry Pike, who had recently arrived from Dorset, founded a cellar. The latest generation built their winery in 1984 and have been making Trophy winners ever since. They use decades of experience to create a Viognier brimming with mouthfilling aromatic fruit yet retaining a distinctive Clare Valley freshness. Prospector’s is a top wine with smoked ham, grilled chicken or stir-fries.
