The Spirit
The Craigellachie distillery sits in a commanding position just above Thomas Telford’s impressive single span bridge across the River Spey. It’s named after the village and the craggy rock it sits on, overlooking the river. This is the very heart of Speyside whisky production. The distillery was first built in 1891 by Alexander Edward, of Aultmore fame, and Peter Mackie, while the buildings were designed by famous architect Charles Doig. Renowned for boundless energy and scrupulous standards, Mackie eventually took charge. He was later knighted for his services to the industry. This is a rare bottling of single malt, distilled in 2006 and aged for 11 years in old sherry butts to lend a glorious Amontillado tang to the peaty whisky notes.
