The Wine
Great Sancerre is about more than just crisp Sauvignon Blanc, it’s about ‘place’ – and that’s exactly what critics have loved about this fine white. The gently sloping vineyards that surround Sancerre’s central volcanic hill bring out a steely intensity and raciness of flavour that’s unique to the region. Dating back to the early 19th century and now owned by Joël and Sylvie Cirotte, Domaine La Croix Saint Laurent is a small family property in the village of Bué. Here you’ll find some of Sancerre’s best vineyards, including Le Chêne Marchand – a limestone rich patch of land with a gentle south facing aspect. A classic match for goat’s cheese, this top vintage Sancerre is also lovely as an aperitif. Otherwise it deserves your finest seafood.
