Winemaker of the Year 2018, Argentina's Winery of the Year 2017 – the Trophies are numerous for Hervé Fabre. Bordeaux born, he decided to make his mark elsewhere. In Argentina. From the super premium Gualtallary region, this is a very fine Malbec.

The Wine
Hervé Fabre is a dapper dresser, a Bordelais born and bred. However he wanted to explore winemaking further afield and in the 1990s fell in love with Argentina and its old vine Malbec. He recognised its potential to make some of the best wines in the world. He is obviously right as some of the grandest names, like Rothschild, Léoville Poyferré, Michel Rolland, have followed him! He established a winery in Mendoza (and now one in Patagonia) and has been planting more and more extreme vineyards. His Gualtallary vines are the highest (1200 metres) and most exciting, cold with very pure sunshine. Catena close by sells wines at £180 a bottle. GGG from pure Gualtallary fruit, hand picked and aged in French oak, is much more modest. Decant early.

Remarkable wine, so pure and intense, elegant and complex. Out of this world, like its vineyards
