The Spirit
In 1865, cattle breeder John Grant purchased the Glenfarclas distillery and adjacent farm, for the sum of £511 19 shillings. It was ideally positioned, halfway between his other distillery, Glenlivet, and the Elgin cattle market. Six generations later, little has changed. It remains in the Grant family, who source their water from the crystal-clear spring that bubbles up from the granite soils at the foot of Ben Rinnes. Over the years they have built an impressive reputation for malts of exceptional quality and value and every year win many awards. They were the first, in 1968, to release a cask strength whisky. This exceptional Speyside malt, long aged in sherry and bourbon casks, is creamy and mellow with notes of pepper and spiced nut.
