The Wine
100 miles inland from San Francisco Bay sits Lodi wine country, enjoying hot, sunny days in the middle of California’s central valley. It’s somewhat of a treasure trove for old vines and forgotten varieties. Take Forbes Creek, made from Cabernet Franc, a grape better known in France as the blending companion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Bordeaux. But sourced from 35–45-year-old vines in sun-soaked Lodi, it’s a star on its own, producing bold, fruit-forward reds. Forbes Creek expresses smooth blackberry and black cherry aromas with classic nuances of roasted red pepper and herbaceous notes, with light oak spice from time in barrel. A great food wine to pair with tomato and mozzarella pasta bake or grilled stuffed peppers.
