The Story Behind the Bottle
Founded in 1946, Domaine Ferraton has always been a highly regarded estate. Yet since the Chapoutiers have come on board quality has rocketed. The Ferraton family started working with Michel Chapoutier in 1998, the latter buying the estate outright in 2004, but running it very much as an independent concern, with the family still at the helm. Oenologist Damien Brisset is also part of the domaine’s ‘super team’, and the result is some really impressive wines. Add in the quality of the 2019 Crozes vintage and grapes produced to the highest biodynamic standards, and you’ll understand the sumptuous richness of this fine Syrah. All the grapes are from Le Grand Courtil, the first vineyard to be planted by Michel Ferraton in 1971. Ageing in 25% new barrels for 16 months has ensured the oak is well integrated with the perfumed, herb-scented fruit. Decant early to let all the flavours open out. Superb with lamb.
