It’s from Cariñena, a hot arid region of Spain where sun-loving grapes like Garnacha (same as Châteauneuf’s Grenache) achieve amazing ripeness. There are no fancy châteaux in this part of Spain, but that doesn’t stop this area boasting some of the world’s best-value reds. The old vines and lack of rain here means there are fewer bunches on the vines, the grapes are smaller too, which only intensifies the flavour – exemplified in El Bombero.
