The Wine
Beaujolais's much sought-after crus all have a special soil in common - granite. So all the stranger that Lantignié has, until now, slipped under the radar. It is a small village, with only 350 hectares of vineyard planted on its prized pierres bleues - schist, volcanic granite and sand. These give its wines real fruit depth and mineral finesse. We have long bought the superb reds from Domaine Piron, run today by Dominique Piron and Julian Revillon. So when they told our buyer, Sarah, of their vineyard find, Les Vignes – an abandoned site they have brought back to life – and the wine they'd made from it, she couldn't wait to try it. Now you can too. Lovely freshness and bright red fruit, with minerality. Ideal with cold meats or omelette.

I would rather it wasn't recognised [as a cru] so the prices would stay fair
