Domaine Saint Antoine 2007
Limoux AOC

16 years age in a wine from southern France? That's almost unheard of. The key is cool, high-altitude vineyards and meticulous winemaking. It's from a small family estate in the Pyrenean foothills. Silky mellow fruit, herbal intrigue, freshness even.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

The Wine
Syrah is a speciality of the northern Rhône, as well as parts of the Languedoc and at Domaine Saint Antoine they show how well it can age. It's a small family estate, just in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Their vineyards lie at altitude, benefitting from both Atlantic and Mediterannan influences. A cooler climate means longer ripening , deeper flavour and more freshness in the wines, which explains, in part, how well this wine has aged. It's not pure Syrah, but mostly, with additions of other local hero grapes – low-yielding Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Carignan. Stand the bottle upright just in case of sediment. With such maturity, there's no need to let the wine breathe. A great red for plain meat dishes or slivers of Tomme cheese.
