The Wine
Domaine Ancely is a 2nd generation family estate, run today by Bernard and Natalie Ancely. Both are from the Minervois region and learnt a great love for the earth and the vines. The greatest punishment they could receive as children was to be barred from the vineyards. When the couple took over the domaine in 2002, they decided to stop supplying the local co-operative with grapes and make a great wine for themselves. They refurbished the cellars and made the vineyards organic. The vines are ideally planted – on south-facing slopes in the Montagne Noire foothills, on pure limestone soils, in cru La Livinière. From very low yield vines, this red is Carignan, with Syrah and Grenache, whole grape fermented to bring out a delicious fruitiness.

The vineyards are like tiny parcels of well-kept garden, very low yielding, so the wines are intense
