The Wine
Grapes have been grown at Durbanville’s Diemersal estate, near Cape Town, since 1702. That’s six generations’ worth of expertise. Today Thys Louw heads up the team and they know just what each plot will bring, which grape clone will thrive and how best to treat the grapes in the cellar. They’ve won many great prizes for their talent too, including Decanter’s Platinum award for this wine. This Sauvignon is from some of their finest plots, open to sea mists and the cooling breezes of the Atlantic, with vines planted on decomposed granite and clay soils, ideal for minerality and bright fruit. The grapes are fermented in large one and two-year-old oak vats, to lend richness and spice, while 11 months lees ageing adds a layer of creaminess.
