Costières de Nîmes AOP

A glorious, rich, southern Rhône classic. It’s from Château Lamour, owned by Vianney Castan, whose winemaking roots go back 200 years. Enjoy the plump blackberry fruit of this red from Costières de Nîmes, one of area’s most exciting appellations.

The Wine
In the last two vintages, this velvety red has scooped five top Golds; only just released, we expect more from the 2017. It’s made in the classic southern Rhône style and its richness is partly due to the same remarkable ‘pudding stones’ you find in the vineyards of Châteauneuf. They absorb heat by day and release it at night, helping grapes to optimum ripeness. The estate is situated between Nîmes and Arles, with excellent terroir for its 50 hectares of vines and 7 hectares of olive trees. Indeed, the 13th century property was once famous for its hunting and a favourite haunt of King Louis IX. From another excellent vintage – great on quality, low on quantity – this red is best decanted early. Serve with grilled red meats or a casserole.

Smooth French red. Lovely berry fruits and a nice spice hit. Needs time to breathe
