The Wine
With consistently high scores in the British and American press over the last six vintages, Lamothe Bergeron is a Bordeaux property to watch. Their wine is affordable too, which is why our Buyer Jean-Marc Sauboua was delighted to snap up this award winning vintage. A 66 hectare estate with an elegant château (built 1868) Lamothe lies in the commune of Cussac, just south of Saint Julien, renowned for its wines with “balance, elegance and harmony” (Michael Broadbent). Lamothe or ‘motte’ refers to the hillock on which this property sits, while Bergeron is the name of an 18th century owner. Pour this fine claret into a decanter to let it breathe, then enjoy with rosemary roasted lamb or char-grilled steak. No rush, it will also cellar well.
