Château Lafon-Rochet St Estèphe 4ème Cru Classé 2014
Saint-Estèphe AOC 4ème Grand Cru Classé
Loading...
James Suckling awarded this superb St Estèphe 93 points and said "hard not to drink now." Rare for claret, it's been approachable from youth and promises much as it ages. From an estate just opposite the great Château Lafite, this is a fine claret.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
Château Lafon-Rochet is a superb estate in the south of Saint Estèphe, just a wave away, across the border in Pauillac, from Château Lafite. The Tesseron family have owned it since 1959, lavishing much investment and care on its then neglected vineyards and cellar. Today, Albert and Michel Tesseron run the estate. They have tweaked the recipe of the wine, so it is less austere than a decade or so back. Improved techniques in the vineyard and a slightly higher portion of Merlot has softened the wine, hence Suckling's comment about finding the 2014 difficult to resist. Yet the wine loses nothing in its longevity, maturing gracefully for 15-20 years. Cabernet dominated and aged in new oak barrels for 18 months, this is a fine serious claret.
