The Wine
Henri Martin, Mayor of Saint-Julien, created Château Gloria in the late 1940s from vineyards he bought from the prestigious châteaux of Léoville Poyferré, Gruaud Larose and Saint Pierre. As a consequence, Château Gloria’s wines remain without their proper status, while each vintage they surpass many of the classified growths. Henri’s son-in-law Jean-Louis Triaud has continued the family tradition of exemplary winemaking. James Suckling was full of praise for this wine, that after seven years, has softened to show layers of complex, mellow flavours. Stand the bottle upright a few hours, in case of sediment, and preferably decant just half an hour before serving. Enjoy with plain roast meats or with firm cheeses like Tomme de Savoie.
