This rare, beautifully mature claret was first brought to life in the year when the Boeing 747 made its first commercial flight. It was aged in oak for two years and since then has lain undisturbed in the cellars of Château Cardinal Villemaurine.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

The Wine
If you enjoy mature, handcrafted Saint Emilion, you’ll love this exceptional find from Château Cardinal Villemaurine. It’s from the celebrated 1970 vintage, “a great year for rich and complex claret” (Decanter). The estate’s vineyard, now owned by Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Angélus, is surrounded by famous names like Pavie, Clos Fourtet and Ausone. Back then it was owned by the Carrille family, who tilled the vineyard with a horse drawn plough and harvested it by hand. Their limestone cellar was gravity fed to avoid putting the wine through the stress of pumping and kept the maturing bottles at a constant temperature, which is why it is drinking beautifully today. With evolved red fruits and silky tannins, it’s ideal with game dishes.
