Château Cardinal-Villemaurine 1966
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru AOC
Loading...
Presenting an exceedingly rare, gloriously mature Saint Emilion Grand Cru. It’s from an estate surrounded by famous names like Pavie, Clos Fourtet and Ausone. Indeed, their vines were recently snapped up by the team who create £250 a bottle Angélus.

The Wine
Our native-born Bordeaux buyer Jean-Marc Sauboua uses his wealth of contacts to secure you the best range of wines at the keenest prices. So when inheritance complications forced the Carrille family to sell their Grand Cru vineyard in Saint Emilion (to Château Angélus no less), they gave Jean-Marc the keys to their cellar. There, stored in perfect conditions, lay vintages dating back to 1947. And Jean-Marc was given his pick. He was thrilled to see that 1966 had lived up to its reputation as one of the finest of the decade. Praised for its “vigour and old style quality” by wine critic Michael Broadbent MW, and as “a long distance runner” by the International Wine & Food Society, JMS found it brimming with charm and elegance. Sip and savour!
