The Wine
Award-winning Castelli Martinozzi can boast a history dating back to 1373. The property has always cultivated vines and olive groves, even when it was a monastery. In 1892 they won their first prize for wine. Today, they receive many every year. The family owned estate has 160 hectares of land, with 16 of them planted to vines. These are on a hill, up to 480 metres high, overlooking the Orcia Valley and near the town of Montalcino. It’s a fascinating estate, with carefully conserved evidence of many past activities – silkworm breeding, weaving, an oil mill, and also a granary and a smithy. Today, however, the team are very much focused on producing top quality Brunello. Aged for three years in barrel, this is a red to savour. Decant first.
