This dense, rich Merlot is unbeatable in terms of drinkability. It’s a careful blend of top grapes from some of South Australia’s finest ocean cooled vineyards, given a gentle infusion of oak. Dark, mouthfilling plum fruit with toasty vanilla length.

The Wine
Every vintage, the team at our small boutique cellar in the Barossa – RedHeads – assesses grape quality in vineyards close by, as well as those in the McLaren and other premium spots in South Australia. They then work with the growers to ensure that, at harvest time, they get delivery of just the grapes they're after. In 2017 Merlot showed best in the Limestone Coast region, where vines are cooled by ocean breezes and the fruit ripens to perfection. From the first vintage onwards this wine has been so smooth and full of juicy plum flavour that it was a top choice for our winemakers to enjoy at the end of a hard day’s graft. On the back deck, hence the name. Really tasty with spicy pork, minty lamb chops or a herby casserole.
