Boada Verdejo 2019

Rueda DO

From a sixth generation family cellar, Boada is a crisp white, not unlike a Sauvignon Blanc. It is, however, made from Spain's Verdejo, a native of Rueda. From mature vineyards, night harvested, it sings with grass, lemony fruit and a hint of peach.

Boada is a new white, named after the pair of oxen who traditionally plough the land in this area. You'll find them on the label. The wine is from the Yllera family's estate, founded in 1970 by Jesús and Pepe Yllera. They were key in showing how Verdejo could make modern, fresh whites. Today Jesús's two sons, Marcos and Carlos, run the property and the winemaker is Ramón Martínez. Known here as Montxo, he has extensive experience in the New World as well as Spain. All the grapes come from a top vineyard, now 20 years old. Night harvested and cool fermented at the modern cellar, this white is grassy fresh and elegant, with pleasing weight and roundness and a touch of ripe peach fruit. Chill and enjoy with fish, chicken or veggie kebabs.
