The Story Behind the Bottle
This is a special, limited parcel of Rioja from the highly awarded Altos bodega. It was founded in 2006 by the Bordeaux-born Jean-Marc Sauboua, who has been our Trophy-winning winemaker at Château La Clarière for many years. He wanted to start a winery of his own, and with a Spanish mother, decided on Rioja. His aim: to make a Grand Cru style in Spain. With four Trophies and nearly 300 Golds, he seems to be succeeding. He picked out several cuvées of Tempranillo from the 2014 vintage that were destined either to be a Crianza or Reserva wines. They were aged for up to two years in a mix of American and French oak before a final blending. Ripe, mature berry fruit, showing lovely evolution and toasty notes of oak spice and cedar.
