The Wine
Pomerol is the world capital of Merlot; a tiny, clay-rich appellation of Bordeaux, home to some of the finest and most sought-after wines in the world, such as £2000 a bottle Château Pétrus. There are no Grand Cru classifications here. The appellation is so small that quality is uniformly phenomenal – the name “Pomerol” is enough. But certain châteaux still stand over the rest for quality. L’Eglise-Clinet does that vintage after vintage, consistently scoring higher in blind tastings than more expensive rivals. Looked after by Denis Durantou, it’s a triumph of old vines, superb terroir and note-perfect winemaking. Its concentrated black fruit and spices will continue to unfurl for decades, richly rewarding those with patience.
"A delicious take on the vintage. Power and seduction delivered delicately with purity and refinement"
Georgina Hindle
A magical Pomerol with many 97-points and above. “A wine that may leave you spellbound” (Vinous)
