The Wine
A name synonymous with excellence in Californian wine, William Knuttel played a key role in establishing Saintsbury’s reputation for fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the 1980s. His influence extended to Chalk Hill and Dry Creek wineries, too. In 2001, William founded his own estate where he now works with his daughter, Kate, and son, Sebastian. This full-bodied, velvety red is from Dry Creek Valley, a top winegrowing region in northern Sonoma County. Its climate is ideal for growing Cabernet – long, warm days, with chilly nights cooled by ocean breezes. This helps the fruit ripen slowly, with even greater flavour. Handpicked grapes, with the wine aged in French oak barrels, it offers intense plum and cherry fruit with long earthy spice.
