The Story Behind the Bottle
The lost valley – Vale Perdido – is part of José Oliveira da Silva’s family estate in the beautiful, centuries-old wine country north of Lisbon. It is a fabulous fourth-generation winery, one with the Midas touch too. It has won well over 1,000 medals – of which over 500 have been Gold. Vale Perdido was the first red we bought from them back in 2003 – a time when Portugal was known as “the land the supermarkets forgot” (more fool them). It was wines like Vale Perdido that kicked off the UK's love affair with Portuguese reds, and this 2022 vintage is tasting as delicious as ever. Lots of lovely ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit. There are cinnamon and chocolate notes too. Then just a subtle lick of oak adds to a satisfyingly long finish.
