The Story Behind the Bottle
The Black Chook ticks every box for what we look for in a proper Aussie Shiraz: top quality, easy drinking and delivering plenty of bang for your buck. This juicy 2015 was crafted by multi award winner Alexia Roberts – head winemaker at Penny’s Hill in the McLaren Vale. She has taken rich, old vine Shiraz from prime sites there and added a portion of fruit from Padthaway. A three hour drive southeast of Adelaide, Padthaway is where the cooler climate yields a harvest with slightly higher acidity. This keeps Black Chook lithe and lively, giving it oodles of ‘more please’ drinkability. Powerful, yet beautifully structured, it’s a great accompaniment to conviviality, as a partner to braised meats, ripe cheeses or a roasted vegetable lasagne.
