The Wine
The Old Block harks back to a time when the Lindner family, founders of the great St Hallett's estate, were family butchers. Much has changed in the Barossa since then, but there is the same meticulous care now performed in the jewel-like vineyards and immaculate cellar. This fabulous dark, spicy Shiraz takes the very best grapes from old (40 years plus) ungrafted vines in both the Barossa and Eden Valleys. These yield just a small amount of highly concentrated, jewel-like berries. Hence the power and intensity of this wine. Each parcel is fermented separately, and aged in French oak (40% new) for 12 months to put the finishing touches to this beautifully polished red. Open early and decant before serving with Moroccan lamb or lasagne.
