The Wine
Although the original Ridge Estate was founded way back in 1885, the first Geyserville Zinfandel was made in 1966, with renowned winemaker Paul Draper joining the establishment in 1969. Draper was a philosophy student and a winemaker by instinct – and, judging by the wines, all the better for that. In the decades since then, Paul has led the estate’s hands off approach, and he has won six of the top winemaking awards. Geyserville is their most famous vineyard, with vines up to 130 years old, planted on well-drained gravelly loam and treated with utmost regard for the environment, so as to make the very best of the terroir. Using a field blend of grapes, dominated by Zin, this remarkable red is highly sought after. An iconic wine.
