The Spirit
Rémy Martin is one of the largest and most prestigious houses in Cognac. It was founded by a young wine grower in 1724, who decided to make Cognac under his own name. So good were they that in 1738 King Louis XV granted him the rights to plant new vines. An honour indeed. The family’s business continued to expand, supplying their fine spirits around the world, with the first outing of the opulent, sophisticated XO in 1981. They have, of course, just passed their 300th anniversary and continue to produce top-class Cognac. There’s no finer way to finish a meal or simply to enjoy a glass at the end of an evening than with a glass of the XO. Deep mahogany, it lifts with aromas of ripe plum and candied orange, spiced gingerbread and roasted nuts. It’s a wonderfully smooth, long and complex brandy, awarded Gold and Double Gold, as well as the prized Global Luxury Masters for spirits.
