The Wine
Susana Balbo has always been a rebel, applying first to study nuclear physics. When her family objected to her leaving Mendoza, she chose oenology instead and became Argentina’s first female winemaker. A wine consultant for 20 years, she realised her dream in 1999 by establishing her own estate. It’s a family affair, with son José and daughter Ana now joining the business. Susana has won many top awards, including being named one of the ‘most influental women winemakers’ by Drinks Business in 2012, and ‘2016 Innovator of the Year’ by Wine Enthusiast, with high scores from Tim Atkin MW, Wine Advocate, Stephen Tanzer and James Suckling. Osadia de Crear – Dare to Create – is a superb Bordeaux blend, aged in new French oak. It’ll age well too.
