The Wine
Welcome to Chénas, the smallest of Beaujolais's 10 crus. As more and more wine lovers succumb to Beaujolais’ pretty fruit charms, this cru is developing a cult following. Its steep slopes make vineyard work difficult, and machinery is out of the question, but the flavour is intense and long. This fine red is from the Piron estate, dating back to 1590, now in the capable hands of Julien Revillon. He took it over from his friend, Dominique Piron, who had no children of his own so wished to pass it to someone to carry on the family’s heritage. Julien has a mission to produce Beaujolais as fine as any Burgundy. He goes to great lengths to achieve that in the vineyard and the cellar. Enjoy the silky, ripe fruit and elegance of his Chénas.
