The Wine
With its rugged slopes, close to the Med, ‘airconditioning’ from sea breezes and plentiful sunshine, Sicily is a winemaker’s paradise. Growers there are very proud of their native grapes. Lucido is the star of Lungomare, a grape formerly known as Catarratto. From low-yield vines, it produces wine with roundness and notes of zesty lemon. Added to this is a small portion of Pinot Grigio, a white grape with a gentle touch of pink on its skin to lend this rosato its blush. Winemaker behind Lungomare is the talented Francesco Asare, who has been with this Sicilian winery since 2002. Chill down a bottle and serve with antipasti, grilled fish and salads.
