Flavour Profile
If you love top-end Aussie wines and a good deal, likes are that you’ll have heard of ‘Cleanskins’. It’s when a premium cellar wants to shift a small parcel of wine – either to clear space or for a cash injection. They call our Aussie buyer, Ben, stationed out there, and he picks you up a terrific wine at an exceptionally low price. Only proviso is that we don’t spill the beans on the name. A small price to pay for a really standout wine. And this Limited Release Sauvignon Blanc Semillon from prized vineyards in Margaret River is certainly that.
This far-out region in Western Australia – a 3-hour drive from Perth for starters – is renowned for cool-climate Cabernets and pristine whites from both Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. What’s more, this wine is from one of the region’s founding estates … over 50 years old and still very much leading the field. Halliday gives it the highest rating with 5 Red Stars.
Largely Sauvignon Blanc with 17% Semillon, it crackles with lime and guava freshness, with a touch of creamy lemon curd. Sip slowly on its own, even better crack open a bottle with panfried fish or salmon with spicy noodles.
