The Wine
Brauneberg is one of the top communes of the Mosel, and the 10-hectare site of Juffer- Sonnenuhr one of its most prized vineyards. It lies on a bend of the Mosel river with perfect south facing exposure and extremely stony soils scattered over well-weathered slate. Slopes are so steep, everything is done by hand. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine terroir better suited to Riesling. Jobst Julius Karp is the talented winemaker at this renowned 17th-century family estate. In a vintage that saw very little rain, this exquisite Grosses Gewächs is intense with lime and peach fruit, with a tight core of minerality and acidity that will let it age for years. Cellared, it will develop broader fruit and floral notes, but always with great freshness.
