The Story Behind the Bottle

The rich volcanic soil, temperate climate and landscape of America’s Pacific Northwest make Oregon ideal for viticulture. It is especially good for growing Pinot Noir, like Hyland Estate Old Vine Pinot Noir.

The very first vine on the Hyland Estate was planted in 1971. Now, more than 50 years later, it has a reputation for creating exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its vineyards are planted on red volcanic soil, which lends freshness and elegance to the wines, as does their 300-metre elevation and the cooling Pacific breeze which helps slow ripening.

Owner Laurent Montalieu is a vineyard fanatic, always striving to produce “the ultimate expression of terroir.” They grow different clones of both grapes and do separate bottlings, farming biodynamically too. Such exacting measures to ensure the finest wines.

This vibrant, fruity Pinot Noir was aged for 9 months in French oak, bringing subtle oak spice and earthy undertones that complement its red plum, ripe strawberry, baking spice and brandy-soaked cherry flavours. This is a red to savour, paired with duck confit, cedar plank salmon, wild mushroom risotto or soft cheeses.
