The Wine
Finca Valpiedra Reserva is a special release from the Martínez Bujanda family and their exceptional, single-vineyard estate. They've been growers in Rioja since 1889, but it was only in 1984, at the completion of a state-of-the-art cellar, that their reputation rocketed. They have always had a very innovative approach to winemaking and in the 1990s, they bought the impressive Valpiedra estate, nestled in a bend of the Ebro river. Its superb microclimate and rocky soils help produce exceptional wines. Tempranillo supported by perfumed Graciano and rare Maturano Tinto, this wine is matured in French oak casks for nearly two years, which adds layers of subtle complexity. Rich, elegant and structured for ageing, it's a classic with lamb.
