The Story Behind the Bottle
This fifth-generation family estate is integral to the history of Puligny-Montrachet. The estate’s founder, Jean-Edouard Dupard, was mayor of Puligny in 1873 when he arranged that the name Montrachet be added to that of the village. Over the years they’ve built up their vineyards to the current tally of 14 hectares, much of it in the finest Premier and Grand Cru locations. Indeed they produce wines from 22 different appellations – 90% of them for white wine. The vines boast impressive maturity – an average age of 40 years, but the oldest over 70 years, and all treated organically. Grapes for their fine Village Puligny are 38 to 68 years old, all hand picked then fermented and aged in 30% new barrels. Decant early if drinking now, or cellar.
