The Wine
Thierry Ferlay is the excellent winemaker at Cellier des Princes – the only cooperative in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They work with growers throughout the southern Rhône to make terrific, award-winning wines from many of its prized villages. Situated on the Dentelles de Montmirail foothills, Vacqueyras is one of the Rhône’s superior appellations, granted AOC in 1990. Over 90% of its wines are red, with a little rosé and white, the latter made from native grapes Grenache Blanc, plus Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier and Clairette. This is a characterful, rounded white with ripe stone fruit character and excellent freshness. Named after the dragonflies that love to visit the vineyards, it’s an ideal partner with chicken, fish pie or creamy pasta.
