The Spirit
Cointreau the distillers was founded by two brothers, Edouard-Jean and Adolphe, in 1849. It was Edouard-Jean’s son who invented the orange liqueur, which was first presented for to the public in 1871. It’s made from the peel of bitter oranges from the Caribbean and sweet oranges from Spain steeped in spirit to obtain a lovely bitter-sweet balance, married with notes of herbs and spices. It’s become a great favourite in the UK, neat over ice or as a great base for a cocktail. Time to get the shaker out.
