You may have heard of Count Stephan von Neipperg. He’s the legendary owner of Château Canon-la-Gaffelière and La Mondotte – both Premier Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion estates. The 2016 vintage of which go for £75 and £160 respectively.

After a decade of patient ageing, Château Soleil is living up to the vintage’s reputation. Ripe cassis and juicy red berries lead the way, evolved and rich but still very bright. Then there’s a lovely lingering toasty oak character with a long silky finish.
