The Wine
Wine Advocate wrote, Château Marsau, “is among the most exciting and compelling on the Right Bank, thanks to the exhaustive work of Anne-Laurence, who has perfectly grasped the symbiosis between the Merlot grape variety and clay soils.” The estate lies in Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, a region that offers superb quality at a fraction of the price of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion. The owners are the aforementioned Anne- Laurence, the winemaker, and Matthieu Chadronnier, incidentally also the president of leading fine wine merchant CVGB. Made from pure Merlot, it shows ripe cherry and cassis with complex layers of roasted coffee, spice, and fine tannins. A wonderful expression of Bordeaux’s most-grown grape. Open early and decant or cellar awhile.
