The Wine
The clay soils of Saint-Estèphe are renowned for producing firm clarets that age extremely well. That is certainly true of Lafon-Rochet 2020, but now with a higher proportion of Merlot in the blend and gentler techniques in the cellar, you no longer need to wait decades. The estate was founded in the 16th century, one of the first in Saint-Estèphe, and went through extensive renovation and renewal with the Tesseron family, who owned it for almost 60 years. They replanted the vineyards and built a new Chartreuse-style château to replace the one destroyed by fire. It's a warm-ochre colour and stands out against the green of the vineyards. Now the property of the Vignobles Cruse-Lorenzetti, it continues to improve in quality.

Excellent energy. Blackberry and blackcurrant character on the finish, a touch of cedar and spice
