The Wine
One of the oldest (1549) and most highly respected names in the southern Rhône, the Perrin family combine tradition with innovation. Pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture, they were following these practices in the 1950s, long before it was deemed on trend. They use laser sorters in the cellar to ensure only the finest berries go into the vat, with any rejects niftily expelled with a tiny jet of air. Renowned for its power and richness, yet also elegance and balance, with ageing potential, Château de Beaucastel 2021 lives up to expectations, gaining scores of 94 points. An intense expression of the finest Châteauneuf vineyards, this wine makes delicious early drinking – open early and decant – and will also age magnificently too.
