The Wine
Veuve Clicquot is one of the top Champagne houses. Madame Clicquot took over the estate in 1805 and created the first crystal-clear Champagne. This she did by inventing the technique of riddling – using a special rack to enable the yeast to be collected in the neck of the bottle. It was under her guidance that Veuve Clicquot became the Champagne house we know today. She was also the first to make a rosé by adding a little red wine from Bouzy. La Grande Dame, white and rosé, are their finest releases – a blend of eight Grands Crus, mostly Pinot Noir, with the red wine from Clos Colin in Bouzy. This vintage they’ve partnered with artist Paola Peronetta and produced a range of textured, pastel-hued boxes in which to present this splendid fizz.
