The Story Behind the Bottle
Taittinger today is one of the largest, most well-respected Champagne houses, with 288 hectares of vineyards. Founded in 1794 and originally called Forest-Fourneaux, it was purchased by Pierre Taittinger in 1932. A near-century of growth has seen Taittinger become one of the region’s leading houses and one of the few remaining independent family-owned estates, not unfamiliar with receiving 100-point scores for their top fizz. As William Kelley of Wine Advocate wrote, “The Taittinger style is pure and expressive, emphasizing charming fruit”. Nocturne is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, the rest fine Pinot Noir and Meunier, aged on lees for four years. A mature, rich, rounded style that will go well with desserts, foie gras or late-evening sipping.
