Flavour Profile
We love a good David and Goliath story. So, when Champagne Esterlin Brut Éclat won Platinum at the super-tough Decanter World Wine Awards (under 0.8% of entries achieve this), out-scoring many Champagne icons, we were delighted.
And now this 97-point gem has beaten prestige vintage cuvées like Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2018 (£185), Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2016 (£170) and more.
Incredibly, this is Champagne Esterlin’s non-vintage, ‘regular’ cuvée. Its secret? A rare ‘solera’ system that ensures a good supply of top-quality, perfectly aged base wine – which makes for a Champagne of great depth, consistency and complexity.
And while Esterlin isn’t a household name, sharp-eyed visitors to Épernay may have spotted their smart property on the Avenue de Champagne, opposite famous Pol Roger. Helps keep those pricey Grandes Marques on their toes!
And just look at this lovely tasting note from the Decanter World Wine Awards …
“Rapturous orange blossom, yellow apple and lemon tart aromas linger deftly over the nose and harmonise delicately with the creamy mousse. Smooth and subtle with a decisive freshness and crunchy mineral finish.”
