The Wine
There's always a stir when you mention the name of Artadi in Rioja circles. This bodega is one of the finest and most famous worldwide, breaking the rules with wines that don’t need to use the usual Reserva and Gran Reserva tags to confer quality. Their Vinos de Gain – a red and white – are from some of their highest vineyards, which lend the wines real elegance and freshness, as well as richness and depth. This is their pure Tempranillo, aged for a year in fine French barriques, not the American oak many others use. It has delicious ripe aromas, but on the palate cuts back with a true elegant freshness. Very silky and harmonious – good with roast meats. Ideally decant in advance to enjoy maximum flavour.
