Flavour Profile
Haut-Brion-trained winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua founded Altos de la Guardia in 2006, with one clear goal: to craft top-tier Rioja using the same exacting standards as Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux. Since then, he’s racked up more than 260 Golds and four trophies for his Altos wines.
Back in 2009 – one of the standout vintages of the decade – Jean-Marc began a special project. He set out to create a small-batch Reserva Rioja built for serious ageing. He lavished it with care, maturing the wine in fine French oak and keeping a close eye on its development.
Now, after 16 years, Jean-Marc is finally ready to release his pride and joy: Altos de la Guardia Colección Privada 2009. And yes, it’s been worth the wait. Thanks to the power of the vintage, there’s no shortage of rich, dark fruit, layered with beautifully developed notes of leather, truffle and spice.
