Vignerons de Bel Air Chiroubles 2019

Chiroubles AOC

Chiroubles may not trip off the tongue quite as easily as Saint Amour or Morgon, but it’s home to silky, strawberry scented wines from the highest vineyards of all the Beaujolais Cru villages. Top vintage in 2019, so this has real charm and ripeness.

With 10 Beaujolais Crus to choose from, why select Chiroubles? Well, at 400 metres above sea level, the beautiful Chiroubles is the highest of the esteemed Beaujolais Crus. This gives the wines particularly intense aromas (recalling, some say, the scent of the peony), and mouthfuls of enticingly fresh flavour. This delightful, fruit filled cru red is a classic example. It comes from the Vignerons de Bel Air, whose fathers and grandfathers first grouped together in 1929 to better withstand the worldwide economic downturn. Endlessly elegant, fruity and juicy, this is a charmer for cold meats, picnics and chicken. And spot on in summer, when we recommend chilling it for 20 minutes or so in the fridge. Great value for such a fine classic.
