Chat with Vinny
Aptly named 'heaven on earth', the Hemel en Aarde region is both beautiful and coastal cool. In wine terms that means reds of supreme elegance and depth. Try the Sumaridge Syrah - deep blackberry fruit married with opulent spice from new oak barrels.
Tasting notes
Silky, ripe black fruit, a layer of toasty spice and cocoa
Aroma
Dark black fruit, raspberry, spice and earthy notes
More information
Hemel en Aarde is a very special part of the Cape, possibly the most beautiful and, in SA, that's saying something! It used to be part of Walker Bay, but gained independent status in 2006, and split into three sections by 2009. This is where you'll find the renowned Hamilton Russell, founded back in 1976. Sumaridge is newer than that, started in 2006 by Holly Bellingham and husband Simon Turner. They used to holiday there every year, but after a few visits, decided they wanted to be part of this idyllic landscape. They purchased the Sumaridge Estate and began dividing their time between SA and their English Suffolk home. Pure Syrah, barrel aged partly in new oak, this wine is silky with seductive black fruit. Tops with lamb or cassoulet.
